Ulcers are a sore or wound and when found in the stomach they are often referred to as Peptic Ulcers.
Symptoms of Peptic ulcers include sharp stomach pain between the breastbone and belly button, usually after eating or after a long period without food. Nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss, gas and changes to your bowel movements could also be indicators of a Peptic Ulcer.
Most Peptic Ulcers are caused by a bacterial infection, illness or medication. Although in extreme cases, stress may cause ulcers, it is not usually the sole cause of an ulcer. However, stress, spicy food and acid build-up may exacerbate ulcers.
About one in 10 people will experience an ulcer at some point in their life. If you think you might have an ulcer, you should consult your healthcare professional. An untreated ulcer can cause bleeding in the digestive system or make a hole in the wall of the stomach and make you very sick.
